Elected Best Doctor in OrlandoLiposuction is the vacuuming away of unsightly fat. It can permanently reshape the body by removing fat from the chin and neck, upper arms, abdomen, buttock, hip and thigh area, knees and your upper and lower back. It is not a substitute for exercise and proper nutrition, but it can remove stubborn areas of fat that refuse to respond to exercise and diet.
Dr. Johnston will perform your liposuction at the surgicenter or outpatient center usually on an out-patient basis (although many patients choose to spend their first night of recovery at the center). Through a very small incision in the skin, a narrow tube or cannula is inserted. As the cannula is moved back and forth through the fat layer, it breaks up the fat cells, which are then suctioned out. Following your surgery you will wear a support garment for several weeks. You may experience swelling and bruising. Any discomfort can be controlled with medication.
Dr. Johnston will also ask you to return to our office for postoperative checkups/treatments that will help your skin to shrink properly so that you will obtain the best results possible. Your recovery period is dependent on the number of areas you have treated.
In general, you will feel tired and sore for 3 to 7 days following your surgery. You will wake up with dressings covered by compression garments that must not be removed for 2 to 3 days following surgery. Then you may shower and replace compression garments that must be worn 24 hours a day for approximately 3 weeks. After that, they must be worn for 2 to 3 weeks at night. You will be able to return to work in approximately 7 to 10 days and can resume normal activity in about 3 weeks.
