Elected Best Doctor in OrlandoA breast lift is performed on an outpatient basis, under anesthesia. An anchor- shaped incision is made along the natural contour of the breast. Dr. Johnston sculpts the excess skin and tissue and repositions the nipple to give the breast a more youthful appearance. During a breast lift procedure, Dr. Johnston can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple.
If you have small breasts and minimal sagging, you may be a candidate for the modified surgery that requires a less extensive incision (short-scar). One such surgery is the "doughnut" or periareolar mastopexy, in which a circular incision are made around the areola.
A breast lift usually takes from 1 1/2 to 3 hours. You return home in a fitted surgical bra. You may experience soreness, bruising and swelling, although medication eases much of this discomfort. Most patients are able to move around 24 to 48 hours after surgery, and are able to return to work within a week. Light activity may be started in a few days. You can expect to have your sutures removed within one to two weeks. Soreness and swelling of the breasts may last three to five weeks.
Note: If you plan to have more children, you may want to put off your surgery because pregnancy and breast feeding may cause the breasts to sag again.
