The goal of a facelift is not to give you a different look, but to regain a younger look by sculpting both the skin and the tissue beneath. Fat can be added to lessen and eliminate wrinkles, creases and lines, and restore the younger, natural contours of your face.

A face lift is actually a variety of procedures that involve raising the facial skin, eliminating folds and lines, and tightening the underlying neck muscles. Areas of focus include the region under the chin, the cheeks and the eye regions. Today’s modern lift frequently includes suctioning of extra fat in strategic areas. The forehead and eyebrows are sometimes included or done in a separate procedure. Small incisions made in front of and behind the ears are virtually unnoticeable when healed.

Dr Johnston will perform the operation in the surgicenter. The procedure lasts approximately two to four hours and you will be under anesthesia. You will go home with dressings around your head and neck, which are usually removed in our office the next day. Minimal initial discomfort if easily controlled with oral medication. Sutures are removed within 14 days and any bruising and swelling that you will experience decreased to “socially acceptable” levels within 10 to 20 days. The final result is evident in 4 to 6 weeks or sooner with continued improvement for several months.

Results vary, based on factors that include smoking, heredity, and sun exposure. In general however, a facelift will last many years.
