How does JUVÉDERM® XC Work?

Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). But as you age, sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of HA in your skin. Understanding Where Wrinkles Form

Your skin consists of two layers known as the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis, or outer layer of the skin, acts as the skin’s primary defense against the environment. The dermis, or innermost layer of the skin, is composed primarily of connective tissue and provides the skin with a support network. Most facial wrinkles and deeper nasolabial folds occur within the dermal layer of the skin.

Q. What makes JUVÉDERM® XC different from other dermal fillers?
A. JUVÉDERM® XC is the ONLY hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved to last up to 1 year after initial treatment.

Q. How long will it last?
A. 6-12 months but everyone experiences different results.

Q. How long does treatment usually take?
A. The injection process generally takes only about 15 minutes.

Q. Are there side effects?
A. You may experience swelling, tenderness, itching, pain or bruising at the injection site and in rare occasions, pustules might form. These reactions generally lessen or disappear within a few days but may last for a week or longer.

Q. Will it hurt?
A. Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. Dr. Johnston may choose to numb to further minimize discomfort.

Q. Is there any associated down-time?
A. Within the first 24 hours you should avoid strenuous exercise, extensive sun or heat exposure and alcoholic beverages. Exposure to any of these may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites.

Q. How soon can I wear makeup?
A. Light make-up and your normal skin care products can be applied within a few hours after your treatment. When applying make avoid any strenuous rubbing.
